Baby Jaxon James Gary of Interlochen was gathered in to the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, January 23, 2018. He passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving parents and was surrounded by his family.
Jaxon was born on April 26, 2017 to Andrew Gary and Jessica Mack in Traverse City. At just two months old Jaxon was diagnosed with a rare brain disorder, peroxisome biogenesis disorder. His diagnosis meant almost constant care from his parents and later with the help of Hospice. The family was blessed to share Christmas with Jaxon, but knew that this first Christmas with their beautiful baby could also be their last.
Jaxon touched many people in his short life here on earth, he healed broken relationships, astonished his doctors and brought incredible love and joy in to his family. In spite of his illness he was a happy baby. He loved to snuggle with his dad, have his head rubbed, and would hold his mom's finger for comfort as he fell asleep. His big brother, Joshua Swartout, loved his brother and doted on him every chance he could. Joshua loved to help care for Jaxon and would read bedtime stories each night.
Jaxon is survived by his parents; brother Joshua Swartout; grand parents Michelle Jokinen, Kris Witkop, Mike (Rhonda) Mack and James Gary; aunt Erica (Josh Brown) Mack; uncles Tyler Leveque, Timmy Leveque, Jamie Gary and Michael Gary; and many cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 29, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Pastor Chris Cox will officiate services.
