Katherine Bess Brinker, 75, of Traverse City, passed away on February 20, 2018. Katherine was born on September 24, 1942 in Pontiac, MI. to her parents the late Lyle Stanley and Elsie I. (Doan) Bumstead.
She graduated from Fenton High School in 1960 and attended Eastern Michigan University where she earned a B.A. degree in Education. Katherine taught at Emmerson Middle School in Flint for 10 years and later taught at private schools before opening and managing her bookstore in Charlevoix in the 1980's.
Katherine enjoyed painting, embroidery, reading and solving puzzles.
She is survived by her sister, Joy Alexander; and 8 nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Anna Outenwreath (2016) and a brother, Chuck Bumstead (2016) and "Abby" her favorite cat.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 11 a.m. at The First Church of the Nazarene, with visitation held one hour prior.
Memorial contributions in Katherine's name may be directed to The First Church of the Nazarene.
