The fiercely independent, loyal, stubborn spirit that was Leslie D. Messing left this earth on January 4, 2018. Born May 22, 1949 in Grand Rapids, MI to Joseph and Doris (Dafoe) Messing. She moved to Traverse City in 1961 and attended St. Francis.
Leslie worked as a keyliner, retiring from the Record Eagle after more than 25 years. She was a woman who wasn't easily swayed by what others thought she should do. Life wasn't always easy for her, but she would defend her family, her beliefs, and those she loved to the end.
Survived by her daughter, Melissa (Perry) Cartwright, granddaughters Emma and Abigail, siblings Lizbeth Messing, Joseph (Ceonna) Messing, Mark Messing and Lynn (Preston Williams) Messing and many nieces and nephews.
Per Leslie's wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 3 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 2 p.m.
