Awanda Ione Doner, 85, of Traverse City, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2013 at her home with her family surrounding her.
Awanda was born on Tuesday, September 27, 1927 in Jackson to Lawrence and Agnes (Nau) Doremire. She graduated from Machinaw City High School in 1945 and entered into marriage with James Carl Doner on Wednesday, October 15, 1947. Together they raised seven children.
Awanda retired from Cone Drive after 23 years of service to the company, starting out as an operator and completing her career in the cost accounting office. She was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed reading and gardening. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother and was a true sister to all of her siblings, who affectionately call her Nana.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Ronald Doner of Traverse City, Marsha (Joel) Annis of Charlevoix, Carla Thayer of Elberta, Lawrence Doner of Fort Myers, FL, Shar (Les) Lawrence and Jim Doner, all of Traverse City; 19 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, with one on the way; 8 siblings and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Awanda was preceded in death by her husband James, daughter Rhonda Olcott, sister Juanita and brothers Russell and Lavon.
A service for family and close friends will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 26 at The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Cemetery.
Awanda would have appreciated being remembered through memorial contributions to The Salvation Army or to Munson Hospice.
