Janet Margaret Larrabee, 64, passed away early Sunday morning, July 10th 2022 in Portland, OR. A longtime resident of Traverse City, Janet was proud to call this place home.
Janet was born September 6th, 1957 in Royal Oak Michigan, to parents Norman and O'Neta Vial. Janet was the baby of the family and wore that like a badge of honor. She loved seeing her older siblings - Diane, Norman Jr, and Kathy- get in trouble after she told on them to her parents.
She married the love of her life, Curt Larrabee on April 7th, 1977 in Oakland County, Michigan. Together, they had two wonderful children, Brian and Erin.
Janet worked at the Traverse City Golf and Country Club for almost 30 years, and was able to grow a large community of friends. She retired two years ago from her job at the club, and worked 2 days a week at the local Ace Hardware, simply because she enjoyed the nostalgic feeling of being there like her favored trips she would take to the hardware store with her dad.
She enjoyed hanging out with her friends, going to dinner and to see movies. She has always been an avid reader and would read anything you put in front of her. She loved listening to podcasts and taking naps. Above all, she loved being around her kids and grandkids. She was a very independent, strong person who had an incredible sense of humor that continued on until she passed.
Janet is survived by her son, Brian Larrabee and his partner Jenny, along with their two children- Ben and Nora. She is also survived by her daughter Erin Larrabee and her husband Andrew Brown and their daughter, Emmy. Janet's sisters Diana Marnon and Kathy (Bob) Blume also survive.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Curt Larrabee, and her brother Norman Vial.
A service will be held to honor Janet's life on Sunday, August 28th at 11:00am at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral home in Traverse City, Michigan. A lunch will follow the funeral at the Golf and Country Club at 1725 S. Union in Traverse City, Michigan.
Donations and memorial contributions may be sent to Munson Hospice House.
