Traverse City-Robert B. Whittaker, formerly of Midland, died December 16, 2012, at Orchard Creek Supportive Care in Traverse City, at the age of 92.
He was born to Harry and Therese Whittaker in Boston, MA on January 3, 1920.
Robert attended school in Boston and then graduated from the University of Michigan. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II for three years in Europe in the infantry and in the medics. He then graduated from Northeastern University Law School in Boston.
Bob practiced law in Midland from l952 to 2002. He served as Midland County Public Administrator for many years. He was on the Board of Peterson School for handicapped children.
Robert was a member of the Elks, American Legion, State Bar of Michigan and the Mason's Scottish Rite. Bob spent happy hours golfing, sailing, playing tennis and skiing.
He moved to Traverse City for retirement after selling his partnership in the Midland Holiday Inn. He was predeceased in death by his parents; sister, Doris Teras; brother, Donald Whittaker; step-son, Daniel Chalup; daughter- in-law, Mary Kate Chalup and son-in-law Rick Trzaska.
Robert is survived by his wife Erma of Traverse City; son, David (Kimberly) Whittaker, of Minnesota; daughter, Marcia Trzaska, of New York; daughter, Susan Whittaker, of California; son, Thomas Whittaker, of Midland; step-son, Jeffrey Chalup of Empire; eight grandsons; five grand-daughters; and six great grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place.
