Thurman Eugene Jensen, 93 of Traverse City, formerly of Flint, passed away peacefully with his son at his side Sunday May 25,2014.
Thurman was born January 22, 1921 in Millington to Alta Ann (Wilcox) and Marcus Henry Jensen. As a young man, he met the love of his life, Virginia M. MacDonald, whom he later married on Sept. 7th, 1940 , at Sacred Heart Church in Flint.
Thurman served his country on the U.S.S. Preston 795, leaving his wife and family for over 3 years. Upon returning from war, he was employed at the AC parts division of GM. Thurman also owned a Service Station in Flint and, with his brothers, owned and operated The Body Works, in Millington, Mi. Thurman tirelessly worked to provide for his family. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends playing cards, pool, darts and was a seasoned "grill master". Among his other interests were tending to his manicured yard and growing his own vegetables.
In 1995 Thurman and Virginia moved to Traverse City where they spent many cherished years with family and friends.
Thurman was proceeded in death by his wife, Virginia of 71 years; his parents; his brothers and sister; his son, Robert Jensen of Vassar; Grandson Blair Morse, of Sarasota, FL; and son in-law Estel Barrett of Florissant, MO.
Thurman is survived by children Sharron Fahey Barrett, of Florissant, MO., Linda(Wayne) Rose of Davison, Alicia (Dennis) Kelley, of Plantation, FL., Mark Jensen(Steve Mulliner), of Traverse City; a daughter in-law, Cindy Jensen, of Vassar, 7 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held in Traverse City from 5:30pm to 7:30 pm on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at the Reynolds -Jonkhoff Funeral Home. On Sunday June 15, 2014 a gathering of family and friends will be held at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington from 1-3 p.m. with a brief memorial service officiated by the Rev. Edward Pedley at 2 p.m. Interment of ashes will immediately follow at the Millington Cemetery.
