Bernadette Marie Ansell, 85, of Traverse City passed away peacefully on Monday, March 5, 2018 with her daughter by her side. Bernie was born August 10, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan, the 5th of 10 children, to the late Edgar and Leona (Corriveau) Masse.
She was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church and often talked about how her relationship with Jesus Christ gave her the strength and peace to remain joyful when the circumstances of life were difficult. She worked for Hoffman and associates in Detroit and later retired from Meadowbrook care facility in Bellaire as an administrative assistant. She also served as the secretary of the Cherry Capitol Model A Restorers Club. Bernie was a caring person, she loved to dance and laugh, she enjoyed doing ceramics, playing cards and volunteering. Spending time with family and friends was her greatest joy. She was an amazing listener, never judging and always helped us to see the brighter side of life. She truly loved being a MOM. Bernie took the time to "see" everyone she met, complementing and learning about them. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She was married to Robert E. Hensley, together they raised two sons and a daughter; Robert M Hensley, David (Katherine) Hensley, and Renee (Gene) Felton. In 1974 Bernie married Robert W. Ansell and her family grew to include stepchildren, Robert (Christine) Ansell, Paul Ansell, Laura (Jeff) Gillikin and step-daughter-in-law, Sandy Ansell. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two sisters; Louise Micheles and Betty (Richard) Brochu as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by husband of 34 years, Robert Ansell; and stepson, Paul Ansell.
Bernie found love again with Neil Brown. They had many new adventures together, including purchasing and restoring a 1929 Model A truck. Their Model A adventures brought many new friends and wonderful trips.
Friends are welcome to visit with Bernie's family on Friday, March 23, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St, Traverse City, Michigan, 49684.
A memorial service honoring Bernadette will take place at 11:00 a.m. with visiting starting at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, 912 S Garfield Ave, Traverse City, MI 49686. Pastor Jim Nihiser will officiate.
