Betty J. Koponen, 92, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 29, 2014, at Tendercare of Traverse City. Betty was born on June 21, 1922 in Bisbee, North Dakota to the late August and Dolly (Leonard) Schwandt. She was married to Milton H. Koponen on June 28, 1941. Betty was a member of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church.

Betty is survived by a son, William August Koponen of Traverse City, MI., a daughter, Maria (Brian) Kuehmichel of Sheboygan, WI, a brother, Wayne (Ann) Schwandt and a sister, Donna Shaffer. Also surviving are four grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Milton, a son, James M. Koponen, a brother, Roy Schwandt and a sister, Berna Juntunen.

In accordance with Betty's wishes cremation has taken place. Private family services will be held at a later date.
