Brian Robert Hicks

Brian Robert Hicks passed away on March 24, 2024. He was born on January 9, 1981to Bob and Beth Hicks. Brian is survived by his sons, Brayden and Oliver; his sister Jennifer; brother Stephen; and his parents. Upon graduation from St. Francis High School in 1999, Brian entered the United States Navy, proudly serving his country for twenty-four years, retiring on August 1, 2023. During his time of service, he was stationed in Norfolk, VA, Whidbey Island, WA, the island of Guam, Great Lakes Naval Training Base and Bahrain. Brian was certified as a Diesel Engineman and rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Specialties during his career involved working as a shipboard engineering plant program manager, a master training specialist and a system coordinator. Many medals, ribbons and citations were awarded to Brian during his long Naval career. They included the Good Conduct Medal, War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation, Navy Pistol Sharpshooter Ribbon, Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, and the National Defense Service Medal. Hunting, fishing, and camping with his best buddies were Brian's passions. He was so happy to be back in northern Michigan after his retirement. He talked excitedly for weeks before the start of deer camp. He loved being out in the woods. He often said the best part of hunting was to be outside and to be with his friends. Getting a deer was just a bonus. Brian was a man who cared deeply for his family and friends. He loved his children and took pride in their achievements. He loved living a simple life, hanging out in jeans and his favorite camo sweatshirts and Carhart jackets. Brian truly was a kind, thoughtful, and generous man. He touched many lives and will be missed so very much by those who love him. A Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m., with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, April 5, 2024 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1025 S. Union St., Traverse City, Michigan 49684. Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Navy.
