Even on the hottest night in the summertime most people would say, "It is just too darn hot for a bonfire," but not Carol. She would be gathering wood, and her friends for a perfect night of telling stories, laughing, dancing, listening to the BeeGee's and sipping a chocolate martini. Unless of course her MSU Spartans were playing. Then the bonfire would have to wait. The Sparties were Carol's "Boys," and if she wasn't watching, then the teams would surely be jinxed.
Carol was born in Bay City, Michigan on March 28, 1962, the daughter of Patrick and MaryAnn (Grocholski) Goslin. She grew up in the farm fields of Unionville and graduated from Owendale-Gagetown High School in 1980. She earned an undergraduate degree from CMU and Master's degree from MSU. For 28 years, Carol worked for the State of Michigan, first in the Department of Corrections and then in the Department of Treasury. She was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Traverse City, and a Eucharistic Minister. She was also a member of the Elks Club.
Carol loved a good Polish meal and was genetically programmed to be an excellent polka dancer. Her quick little feet knew just how to take three light steps for every two beats. She was so open and loving. She was also so stubborn and persistent. Shortly after hip surgery and against doctor's orders, she took a chainsaw to that nagging, old tree in the backyard because it would make good firewood.
Her dimples. That huge bright diamond smile. You knew she was listening to you because she tilted her head ever so slightly to take in each word. In her presence, you felt a sense of comfort, kindness and that she genuinely cared.
In July 2018, Carol learned she had a Metastatic Appendecial Cancer. Like a warrior she tried every medication, chemotherapy, alternative therapy, meditation, and prayer. For the last two months of her life, Carol went with her partner (Lisa Neumann), best friend (Chris Moore), and three frisky dogs to Florida. There in land of sunshine and citrus trees, they welcomed friends and family from Michigan, ate fresh seafood, floated in the pool, rode electric bicycles, soaked up the warmth, and listened to the waves crash on the beach. Carol died at home in Traverse City in the loving arms of Lisa and Chris on March 31, 2020, three days after her 58th birthday.
Remember Carol's strong faith, strong hands, and strong love for you. You could always depend on her. You still can.
Carol is survived by her partner Lisa Neumann; her parents, Patrick and maryAnn (Grocholski) Goslin; sister Barb (Dennis) Tomczak of Bay City, brother Gary Goslin of Sebewaing, and sister Karen (Goslin) Muntz of Cass City; best friend Chris Moore; nieces and nephews Travis, Justin, Jessica, Erica, Evan, Amanda, and Andrew; and fur-babies Trixie and Kady. She was preceded in death by Brother Richard Hugh Patrick Henry, O. de M.
A celebration of Carol's life will take place at a later date in Traverse City, Michigan. Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home and Cremation Services is caring for Carol and her family.
