David William Visuri

David William Visuri, age 67, of Thompsonville, MI, passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 after a short battle with cancer. Dave was a loving husband, father, grandpa, uncle, and brother to his large family. He generously hosted family gatherings, finding joy in providing a warm meal and fellowship for all. Dave was known for his ability to masterfully carve a magazine quality turkey, earning the nickname “Father Thanksgiving.” He was known as the “King of Snacks” for his famous Grandma Ruthie’s Chex Mix and Grandma Schroeder cookies. From playing Secret Santa to ensure a Merry Christmas for those in need, to picking up the bill for an elderly couple at a restaurant, he selflessly gave to so many. Dave never wanted a thank you or recognition, he just wanted to make others happy. Dave retired as the Honorable Postmaster of the Post Office in Merril, MI in 2017, working for the United States Postal service for 35 years. Dave found his true calling as a father. He was an avid supporter of his sons’ sports careers, traveling across the country to support them at every turn. His sons will always remember his lesson of “never come home with a clean uniform.” Later in life, Dave thrived in the role of grandpa. Whether that was teaching his grandson how to play golf, wearing bracelets and baking with his granddaughter, or wrestling with the youngest grandkids. Dave truly felt his grandchildren could do no wrong. Dave was also an avid sportsman, who enjoyed the great outdoors. He was often found fishing his favorite spots on the rivers of Northern Michigan, and hunting across the state. Baseball was his favorite sport. As a top-notch shortstop, he displayed excellent athletic skills and instincts. Dave shared his love of golf with his family creating many special memories and traditions that have carried over to a new generation. When a listening ear was needed, he provided excellent advice and a strong compass. He would often tell people that the door to his home was always open, and many took that offer up over the years. Dave was known for his seemingly endless knowledge of anything and everything, from nature to world history. Watching an episode of Jeopardy with him was a sight to see. Dave’s life was well lived, providing a memorable legacy that will live on with his family. Dave was preceded in death by his mother, Carol Visuri; brother, Mike Visuri; brothers-in-law: Kurt Beuthin, John McKinney; in-laws: Otto & Jean Beuthin; and his grandson, Mack. He is survived by his wife of 42 yrs., Jeanne Visuri; sons: Evan (Samantha) Visuri, Elliott (Lauren) Visuri; grandchildren: Nash, June, Lucy, Theo; father, Jack (Liz) Visuri; siblings: Karen (Dan) Voglewede; Tom (Brenda) Visuri, John (Camy) Visuri; step-brother, Jeffrey (Erin) Gudritz; siblings-in-law: Christina (Jesus) Liron, Victoria McKinney, Lou Ellen (John) Mertz, Laura (Tom) Armstrong, Jim (Skae) Gudritz, Daniel Beuthin, Lucielle (Bill) Chrisman; and many nieces and nephews. A private funeral service honoring Dave will be held at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. In addition, a Celebration of Life is being planned for the Spring/Summer of 2025. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
