Obituary

Deanna Joy Sommerfeld, age 75 of Lake Ann, passed away at home on February 23, 2013 following a long battle with Alzheimer's and Breast Cancer.

Deanna was born on November 4, 1937 in Pontiac, MI to Alex and Beulah Parker. The family moved to Bad Axe when she was young. Deanna married her high school sweetheart in August of 1964, Owen Sommerfeld and they were just short of their 50th Wedding Anniversary.

Deanna was a very talented vocalist, singing at high school functions and many weddings. She worked for General Motors in Detroit and sang in the GM Chorus.

Deanna was a cancer crusader in Benzie County and for several years she was also the Benzie Chair Person.

When Owen retired from the Michigan State Police, they traveled extensively for a year going to many antique shows, shops and sales. In 1990 they started as dealers in Wilson Antiques in Traverse City.

Surviving Deanna is her husband Owen, four sisters Gail (Jim) Millgard of Port Austin, Charlene (Phil) McBride of Elkton, Lori Parker of Bad Axe, and Renee (Larry) Pulcer of Harbor Beach, a brother-in-law Lynn (Kay) Sommerfeld of Wyoming, two special nieces, Meghann and Lindsey Pulcer of Saginaw and numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Deanna is preceded in death by her parents, sister Bonnie, and brother-in-law Ralph Gottschalk.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Benzie County Animal Shelter in Beulah.

Family services will take place in the spring in Bad Axe.
