Obituary

Dianna Lynn Shumsky, 80, of Traverse City, passed away with her family at her side on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.

Dianna was born on October 13, 1945, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to the late Evart and Donna (Hall) Cozart. She graduated from high school and attended college for a short time before beginning work at Michigan Bell. It was there that she met the love of her life, John Joseph Shumsky. The two were married on October 11, 1969, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Traverse City.

Together, Dianna and John lovingly raised their two wonderful children, Scott and Molly. Dianna was devoted to her family and spent many years as a stay-at-home mother, caring deeply for her children and husband. Later, she worked as a receptionist at the Record Eagle and at St. Francis Catholic Church. She also worked at Weight Watchers as a front-desk girl, where she found great joy in encouraging and helping others on their weight-loss journeys.

Dianna was an active member of St. Francis Catholic Church and more recently became a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She loved singing in the choir and cherished the many friendships she formed through her faith community.

Dianna enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Florida, and was looking forward to returning this year. She and John treasured their time spent at Marco Island and Estero, Florida0. Dianna had a gift for friendship and was known for having many dear friends everywhere she went. Her favorite motto was "Keep Smiling," and she lived it every day, sharing warmth, kindness and joy with everyone she met. She was a wonderful woman who was deeply loved and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Dianna is survived by her beloved husband, John, who will miss her profoundly; her son, Scott (Joceyln Parris) Shumsky of Taos, NM; her daughter, Molly (Jason) Johnson of Traverse City, step-grandchildren, Brendan, Brianna and Kelsey; and her sisters, Nancy (Robert) Burns and Kandie (Lisa Mackey-Gillett) Cozart.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Evart and Donna Cozart; her sister, Janice Fellows; and her brother, Michael Cozart.

Services will be announced in the summer and held in the Gardens at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Memorial contributions in her honor may be directed to St Judes Children's Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
