Doris L. Core

Doris Leone Core, 80, of Traverse City passed away Monday, March 04, 2013 at Munson Medical Center following a short illness. Doris was born on Tuesday, September 06, 1932 to the late Howard and Hilda (Clark) Hunt in Traverse City. She graduated from Traverse City High School in 1950 and then attended the Sparrow School of Nursing in Lansing, graduating in 1953 as a registered nurse. Shortly afterward, she married Walter H. "Bud" Core, Jr.,, her high school sweetheart and next door neighbor, on September 19, 1953 at First Congregational Church. For many years Doris was employed in the office of Dr. E. J. Bolan in Suttons Bay and then was employed in the State Hospital system working in several of the hospitals around the state. Doris was a member of West Bay Covenant Church where she was very involved with many aspects of the church. They were her family and she especially enjoyed "socializing" with the women's group there. She also looked forward to having her hair done every Friday at Murra's Hair Care, especially for the chance to visit with her friends there. She was a master gardner, loved bird watching, especially hummingbirds,enjoyed traveling and working crossword puzzles. Her family, her grandchildren and her church were her the focus of her life. Doris is survived by her children, Nancy Core of Cincinnati, OH, Patricia (Dennis) Beyer of Traverse City, Anne Core and her husband Dave Kelly of Minnetonka, MN, James Core of Cedar; her grandchildren, Kelsey and Keegan Beyer, Mitchell, Joshua and Kurt Core and Ashley Kelly-Johnson and Jennifer Jackson. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren; her sisters, June Newhall of Sandy, Utah and Bonnie Slaven of Traverse City; her brother George Hunt of King George, VA and her sister in law, Mary Stewart of Traverse City, as well as many nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; a brother Donley Hunt and her sisters, Helen Swanson and Margaret Timm. A memorial service celebrating Doris' life will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9 at West Bay Covenant Church, 12720 South West Bay Shore Road, Traverse City with Pastor Kent Anderson officiating.
