Obituary

Duane Andrew Sherman, 80 of Grawn, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions with his loving family at his side.

Duane was born on December 2, 1933 in Saginaw, MI to the late Lewis Wallace and Martha Marie (Murphy) Sherman. He married his high school sweetheart Gladys (Otway), whom he met in the first grade, on October 25, 1952 in Midland, MI. Together they lovingly raised 8 wonderful children.

Duane was a dedicated insurance adjustor for Allstate Insurance Company for more than 30 years in the Merrill and Traverse City areas. He was the Village President and a volunteer fireman for the village of Merrill. His CB handle was the "Good Hands Man." He was an active member of the JC's and Knights of Columbus. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, was an avid gardener, American history buff and enjoyed tending to his lawn. Most importantly Duane was a wonderful family man. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family at the Twin Oaks Hunting Club in Ossineke. Duane will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Surviving Duane is his wife Gladys (Otway) of almost 62 years, children, Debra Sherman, Gail (Roger) Yanska, Greg (Jeanette) Sherman, Matt (Patty) Sherman, Deana (Jerry) Walls, Kimberly (Vincent) Currier, Bryon (Viola) Sherman, and Ellen (Timothy) Wrede, grandchildren, Sara Yanska, Amanda Yanska, Jessica (Patrick) Zionskowski, Coleman (Bobbie Lynn) Sherman, Aaron Marie (Abraham) Bagley, Hayley Sherman, Maggie-Jo Sherman, Jack (Lisa) Walls, Kathleen Walls, Carrie Walls, Trevor Currier, Connor Currier, David Sherman and Rachael Sherman, great grandchildren, Kaylee, Dillon, Austin, Logan, Lexi, Natalie, Autumn, Brooklynn, Kent, Ella and Connor, and siblings, June Honaman, David (Marsha) Sherman, sister-in-law, Ann Sherman, brothers in-law Jim Luneack and Marty May and many other loving family members and friends.

Duane is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Howard Sherman, Jackie May, Maryann Luneack, and Jim Sherman.

Visitation for Duane will take place on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home from 4-7pm with a Wake Service held at 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, September 29, at 11am with a visitation held from 10-11 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Fr.
