Esther Marie Schroeder

Esther Marie Schroeder, 92, of Interlochen passed away October 20, 2018 at Munson Hospice House. Esther was born on March 12, 1926 and raised in Northwest Detroit to the late Herman and Frieda (Richartz) Kroepel. She was baptized and confirmed at Redford Lutheran Church. In 1948, at a church youth gathering at the Walther League, she met a young man who loved to sing, especially in the Key of C. She was a gifted piano player and the two immediately hit it off. On November 25, 1950 Esther and Victor Charles Schroeder entered into marriage at Outer Drive Faith Lutheran Church. Esther graduated from Redford High School during WWII and worked at J.L. Hudson as a cashier and wrapper on the 7th floor handling shoe stamps and wrapping millinery. She went on to the Detroit Business University and graduated with a secretarial degree in Stenography where she worked at the Fisher Building for eight years . She then worked for Sears and retired in 1996. Esther was a devoted member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, the church's Katherine Guild and the Interlochen Women's Club. Esther and Victor were quite the dynamic duo and for years traveled around to all of the senior citizen homes to play piano and sing. Esther also played every Tuesday at the Gathering Place in Honor for the past 21 years. They finished most of their events with the classic God Bless America. Esther was preceded in death by her beloved husband Vic in 2016 after 65 years of marriage; two daughters Suzanne Pitluk and Gretchen Little; sister Ruth and brother-in-law Arthur. Esther is survived by her daughters Heidi (Jeffrey) Good and Johanna (Jim) DeMeyer; nine grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and sons-in-law Jack(Doreen) and Tom. Visitation will be held on October 25, 2018 from 4 to 7 pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Interlochen. The funeral service and luncheon will also be held at the church at 11:00 am with visitation beginning one hour prior on Friday October 26, 2018. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
