Franklin "Frank" Delano Krystiniak

Franklin Delano Krystiniak, 91, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 5, 2025, at French Manor Terra with his loving family at his side. Frank was born on January 30, 1934, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to the late Arlene Louise (Near) and Stanley John Krystiniak. He attended St. Isadore Catholic Grade School and Catholic Central High School in Grand Rapids. In 1953, Frank was drafted into the United States Army as a tank gunner, proudly serving until 1955, including 18 months in Germany. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post in Traverse City. Following his military service, Frank worked at Lear Inc. for 17 years, Kawasaki Midwest for 7 years, and the Grand Rapids Press for 19 years. Over the years, he made his home in Grand Rapids, Sausalito, California, Wolf Lake, Michigan, and, since 1985, in Traverse City. On June 17, 2000, Frank married the love of his life, Hilda Cecilia Popp. Together they enjoyed traveling extensively in retirement, with adventures taking them to Peru, Spain, Alaska, Upper Michigan, and across the US. Frank especially treasured their service trips to Mexico, Honduras, and Costa Rica. Deeply committed to his community, Frank volunteered at Munson Hospital, the National Cherry Festival, the Father Fred Foundation, and the Salvation Army. He was grateful for the support of Al-Anon, which he joined in 1990, and which brought him life-changing peace and purpose. Frank leaves behind these words: " I am grateful to have been born in this great Country, the fantastic USA. To those I have harmed or offended during my life, please forgive me. To all those who made my journey so worthwhile, thank you very much. To the love of my life, "Hildee" I will wait patiently for you in the next room. Have an ice cream cone at Moomers, Traverse City, as I will be there in spirit with you. Goodbye, Good Luck and God Bless you all." Frank is survived by his beloved wife Hilda; his children Kim Bauml, Dan Krystiniak and Michele (Jim) Van Wagoner; grandchildren Alex, Greg, Cole, Devon; and great granddaughter Juliet along with his extended family and many friends who will carry his memory in their hearts. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. A luncheon will follow the Mass, after which Frank will be laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Father Fred Foundation or the Immaculate Conception Food Pantry.
