Garrett C. Zamarron

Garrett Campbell Zamarrón was welcomed into the world on October 11, 1990 by his adoring parents, Buz and Trish Zamarrón, as their first child and only son. On March 27, 2021, of natural causes, Garrett was unexpectedly called to his heavenly home. Garrett is deeply missed by his parents and his three younger sisters, C.J., Sydni, and Madeline Zamarrón, as well as by his Grandma (Mary Campbell), his Nana (Sarah Zamarrón), his many aunts, uncles, loving cousins, and his feline extraordinaire, Chicken. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather (Tom Campbell), his paternal grandfather Pa (Ralph Zamarrón), and his beloved pup Chester (Chessi) Johnson Zamarrón. Early on, Garrett proved himself to be a creator through and through. He was a multi-talented young man who always pushed himself to learn a new craft and was diligent about polishing each new pursuit until he had it mastered. At an early age, he demonstrated a fondness for drawing and humor, borne of his love of Calvin and Hobbes and The Far Side comics. This love resulted in the creation of Garrett’s personal comic strip, Parker and Fitz, his iteration of Calvin and Hobbes. Garrett’s love for intellectually confounding people led him to mastery as an accomplished illusionist. This craftsmanship ultimately led to the infamous phone call to his mother from the school secretary, upon finding Garrett levitating in the hallway. Garrett’s creative intelligence allowed him to become a self-taught musician, which took him to Columbia College in Chicago for Music Engineering. He carried this deep passion for music throughout the rest of his life. It was truly one of his love languages. He found joy in creating it, sharing it, and experiencing it with the people for whom he cared. In addition to influencing so many through his music, Garrett deeply impacted people through his intellect, compassion, quick wit, humor, and empathy. While he played endless pranks on his sisters growing up, he always had a tender heart, which he fully embraced. He never shied away from showing his love and adoration for his people. Garrett maintained a stoicism throughout his life, but family and friends could always count on his kindness and deep empathy. Each of his close relationships was unique in its own way, and ran deep and wide. His friends and family were blessed to have their own special relationships with him. We knew his compassionate heart well, and he generously extended it to whomever crossed his path, recognizing the inherent dignity of every person. As a bartender at Nolan’s Cigar Bar for many years, his regulars became an extension of his family. He will be greatly missed by many, and will always be remembered with incredible fondness. Visitation and Vigil Service will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Monday, April 5, 2021 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1025 S. Union St., Traverse City, Michigan 49684. A Rosary will take place at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior, on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Mitchel Roman will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Safe Harbor of Grand Traverse, a shelter for people experiencing homelessness, or to the Carmelite Monastery of the Infant Jesus of Prague in Traverse City, a monastery where the discalced nuns pray, in part, for those who do not.
