Gladys M. Kevwitch

Gladys Mary Olive Kevwitch, 94, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2024, with her family by her side. Gladys was born on September 20, 1930, in Williamsburg, Michigan, to Charles and Mildred Peck. From a young age, she developed a love for nature, which stayed with her throughout her life. She found great joy in gardening and spending time outdoors. In 1947, Gladys met the love of her life, Floyd Kevwitch, on a blind date. It was love at first sight, and the two were married on October 3, 1948. They shared 73 wonderful years filled with love, laughter, and happiness. Family was everything to Gladys. She and Floyd were blessed with four children. She took great pride in cooking her famous fried chicken, roast beef dinners, potato salad, and beloved Texas sheet cake for her family. Gladys also enjoyed canning food for her loved ones. Gladys was a dedicated member of Grawn United Methodist Church, where she served as the Sunday School Superintendent for many years. She had been an active part of the congregation since 1966, sharing her faith and generosity with everyone around her as well as singing in the church choir. One of her favorite memories was celebrating her 50th wedding anniversary with Floyd on a trip to Mackinac Island, a dream come true made possible by her children. In addition to her family and church, Gladys loved giving back to her community. She worked at Munson Hospital laundry until her second child was born, then she became a full-time domestic engineer and farm wife. She was known for her caring heart and open generosity. A talented quilter, she made quilts with the quilting ladies at her church and made beautiful quilts for her family, which they will cherish for years to come. Gladys is survived by: Michael (Elizabeth), Brian (Char), Kristy (Steven) Sivek, and Kevin (Dawn) all of Traverse City. 11 Grandchildren, 9 Great Grandchildren, and 5 Great Great Grandchildren; 1 Brother Cecil Peck of Kalkaska; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by: Loving Husband Floyd, Her parents, Stepfather, 3 brothers, 3 sisters, 10 stepbrothers and stepsisters, and 1 Great Granddaughter. A funeral service for Gladys will take place on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Grawn United Methodist Church. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., followed by her service at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Grawn United Methodist Church. Burial will take place at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
