Helen Nehls was born in Detroit, Michigan, on November 9, 1928, and passed away on November 8, 2025, just one day before her 97th birthday.

Helen married her high school sweetheart, Edward Nehls. Together they attended Michigan State University, where she majored in nutrition and was a proud member of the Alpha Phi sorority. After college, Helen and Edward settled in Flossmoor, Illinois, where they raised their five children before eventually returning to Michigan for retirement.

Helen was deeply devoted to her family. She was the loving mother of five, grandmother of sixteen, and great-grandmother of over twenty. She treasured time with her family and brought everyone together through the many trips and gatherings she planned over the years. She especially loved being on or near the water and took great joy in relaxing by the lake and enjoying scenic views.

Helen was deeply involved in each community she was a part of. She participated in the garden club, volunteered at the local library, and supported numerous neighborhood, church, and community events. Her presence, kindness, and willingness to help made her valued wherever she went.

Helen lived a long, full, and meaningful life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Anne Hecker; her beloved husband, Edward; and her grandson, Jonathan Nehls.

Her legacy of love, generosity, and strength will continue to live on in all who knew her. Helen's family takes comfort in knowing she is reunited with her savior in heaven.
