John David Crockett Sr.

John David “Davy” Crockett, Sr., age 50, of California, formerly of Kingsley, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at UCLA David I Saperstein Emergency Center of a massive heart attack. Davy was born on June 26, in Traverse City, Michigan to Richard (Dick) Crockett and Pauline “Deni” Dennison Cook. Davy graduated from Kingsley High School in 1990. He was employed at Apple Fence in Grawn, Michigan, and moved on to concrete work for Roger Peplinski. He was accepted into an apprenticeship with the IBEW while employed by SKF Electrical Contracting out of Williamsburg, Michigan. He then studied for two years, while working, placing in the 99th percentile, and received his American Line Builders Joint Apprenticeship and Training Program certification to officially become a Journeyman Lineman on July 25, 2011. He moved to California in 2015 and was working and living with one of his lifelong friends, Rodney Wilson, at Edison Power until his passing. Davy participated in football and baseball at Kingsley High School and played softball on coed and men’s leagues. His short stop skills were impeccable. Davy also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his grandfather, father, uncle and friends. He was a union member of the local IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) 876 in Michigan and IBEW local 47 in California. Davy had an exquisite sense of humor. To know Davy is to know Davy. Davy is survived by his son, John David Crockett Jr, the apple of his eye. He is also survived by Jessica May Crockett, the mother of his child and best friend. He is survived by his mother Deni Cook of Florida, a sister Tony Baker of Wellston, Ohio, a half-sister Jami Crockett of Benzonia, Michigan, a step sister Kristi (Mason) Morrow of Thompsonville, Michigan. He is also survived by his step mother Janice Lea Crockett of Traverse City, Michigan, his Uncle Dave (Kathy) Crockett of Traverse City, Michigan, close cousins Kelly (Ash) James of Grawn, Michigan and Carrie (Kevin) Kobylski of Interlochen, Michigan. He is also survived by his grandfather Glen Stafford of Kingsley, Michigan, and many other nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his grandparents Paul and Ruby Crockett, his grandmother Pauline Cook Stafford, his father Richard (Dick) Crockett, his Aunt Kathy Crockett. A service honoring Davy will take place on Saturday August 20, 2022 at 11:00am with visitation from 10am until the beginning of service at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
