John Polaczyk

John R. Polaczyk, age 63, passed away suddenly on October 28, 2017. John was born December 6, 1953 in Dearborn, Michigan and is survived by his wife, Krista, four children - Amy (Marco) Propato, Sarah (Jim) MacGregor, Joshua (Emily), and Jacqueline - two grandchildren, Luca and Cecilia Propato, sister Renee (Rick) LaLiberte, and three nieces. John was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Rosemary, and siblings Ronald, Rosemary, and Vincent. He was a graduate of Fordson High School in Dearborn and attended both Schoolcraft and Henry Ford colleges before obtaining a Nursing License from the former Sinai Hospital of Detroit. John began a career in healthcare as a program manager at the Detroit Medical Center in 1977, and worked in the healthcare industries in a variety of capacities throughout his life. After living in Canton, Belleville, and Grand Rapids, Michigan and New Jersey, John settled in Jackson where he continued work as a nurse manager. In 1997, he established the WorkWell clinic, a joint venture with Foote Hospital. He ran the program at Foote for the next 18 years, which eventually became the Henry Ford Allegiance Occupational Health. John loved serving the city of Jackson and did so for more than a decade in a variety of capacities including as a City Council Member for the City of Jackson, Chairman of the City of Jackson Planning Commission, and at the time of his passing, was Jackson County Commissioner for District 8. John loved his family and was proud of each of his four children and their individual spirits. He loved to travel, spending time at his second home in Northern Michigan and frequently visiting Vermont and the Smoky Mountains. He enjoyed cooking and gardening, was an American history buff, and rode his motorcycle as often as he could. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 3 at 11:30am at Trinity Lutheran Church 122 W. Wesley St. Jackson, MI 49201.
