Kevin James Hahnenberg, 56, of Traverse City, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at The Villa at Traverse Point.
Kevin was born on October 1, 1959 in Kalkaska to Robert "Bob" and Joyce (Laforest) Hahnenberg.
Kevin was strong person who could make the best of every situation. In his younger years, he was an avid golfer, and accomplished skier. Those who knew Kevin, know that he suffered a serious illness many years ago. Prior to his illness, Kevin enjoyed sports, fishing, two-tracking, and camping. He volunteered with the local Little League as an umpire and assistant coach. He was a loving and devoted father. Kevin was adventuresome and had spent time in New Mexico, lived in Houston, TX and in Dillon, Colorado, before settling back in Michigan as he wanted to raise his future children near family. While Kevin had tried his hand at many different careers, his favorites included working for his family's business, Hahnenberg Moving & Storage, Greens-keeping at Twin Birch Golf Course, Ski Specialist at Virgin Islands Ski Rental; and Ski Patrol at Shanty Creek Resort.
After Kevin's illness, he spent a great deal of his time volunteering in the Traverse City area. Kevin gladly gave his time at The TBA Career Tech Center, Cedar Valley Assisted Living, The Villa, The Pavillions, and various other places. Kevin was also a devout Catholic and had great regard for St. Francis Catholic Church.
Kevin will be remembered for his kind heart and love for people. He had a way about him that drew others in, with his sweet smile, and gentle disposition. He was a good person and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Surviving Kevin is his mom Joyce; his children, Robert Jack (Amber) Hahnenberg and Candace (Chad) Musselman; brothers Robert "Bob" (Deborah) Hahnenberg, Michael "Mike" (Cammy) Hahnenberg, 3 grandchildren, Amelia, Adrianah, and Maxton, former wife Debbie, and many other loving family members and friends.
Kevin is preceded in death by his father Bob Hahnenberg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11am on Wednesday August 31, 2016 at St. Francis Catholic Church with a visitation beginning at 10. Burial will take place at the Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Diabetes Foundation of Michigan or to St. Francis Catholic Church.
