Mark Johnson, 75, of Traverse City, passed away May 14, 2023.
He was born on July 31, 1947 in Stambaug, MI to the late Harland and Erma (Erspamer) Johnson.
Upon completing high school, Mark enlisted in the US Air Force. After serving a 4-year term he was honorably discharged. During his service time while stationed in Empire, MI, he met the miracle of his world and they celebrated 52 years of bliss together; Barbara Gougeon. They had two children, Jen and Scott and enjoyed all things adventurous. Many trips to Florida, and a special trip to Hawaii for their 25th wedding anniversary. Some of the most notable adventures though usually included concert tickets and Jimmy Buffett.
Mark was really into all music, the golden oldies, but would never pass up any type of music if it could be added to his vinyl collection. Until he retired, Mark made a name for himself in communications. First with Michigan Bell, then AT&T and finally with the Communications Department of Munson Medical Center. He would often pick up free-lance projects as well within the community.
He loved baseball, especially the Yankees and looked forward to playing on his weekly leagues. His fun loving and free spirit, his special sense of humor and his willingness to give a hand will be missed by all that jammed with him-
He is survived by his wife Barb, his daughter Jen, his son Scott (Julie), his grandchildren; Dominic, Jazlyn, Olivia, Isabella and Sophia, great granddaughter Bella, brother Gary, sister Chris (Joe), nephews; Christopher, Jeremy and Matthew (Marie), nieces Amy and Missy as well as many great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his pup Socks and his grand pup Luna.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents as well as his grandson Zachary.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday May 30, 2023 at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home from 5-7pm. A second visitation will take place on Wednesday May 31, 2023 also at the funeral home from 10a-11a with the funeral service beginning at 11:00am. Proper military honors will be presented at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens where Mark will be laid to rest.
