Traverse City - Michael Scott Savage, 74, of Traverse City passed away on March 8, 2021 at the French Manor.

Mike was born on August 21,1946 in Saginaw to the late Lawrence Christian and Millicent Jean (Wykes) Savage. A 1964 graduate of Grosse Pointe High School, Mike graduated from Michigan State University in 1969. He then moved to Aspen, Colorado where he worked, skied and fished before moving to the Traverse City area.

On December 18, 1971 Mike married Colleen C. Carroll in Washington, D.C. and together they made their life on the Old Mission Peninsula. Ever the partnership, they went to welding school, and later to the Great Lakes Maritime Academy together. He loved to sail, fish, and trips to their cabin in Ontario.

Mike was a Merchant Marine (engineering) officer with Ford Motor Company and the Interlake Steamship Company. He retired after 20 years in 2004.

Mike is survived by his wife Colleen; brothers Chris (Deb), Brad (Cheryl) and Matthew (Dana); sister-in-law Michelle (John) Hicks; brother-in-law Tim Carroll, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions in his honor may be directed to the Peninsula Township Fire Department. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
