Traverse City – Phyllis Mae Ward, 91, of Traverse City, passed away Friday, December 2, 2016 at Orchard Creek Assisted Living.
Phyllis was born on December 21, 1924 in Detroit, she was the daughter of Clarence and Mabel (McLean) Besaw. On April 1, 1944 she married Harold Ward and they spent 72 glorious years together.
Phyllis loved for her family and had many wonderful friends. She took great pride in being a homemaker caring for her home and yard, growing many beautiful flowers; cooking and baking for her family. She enjoyed many occasions with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving Phyllis are her children; Linda Champ, Debra (Jim) Kava, David (Pam) Ward; brothers Jim (Miriam) Besaw and Larry (Janet) Besaw; five grandchildren Michele, Darin, Justin, Linsey and Jessie; ten great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Mabel (McLean ) Besaw; two brothers, Stanley Besaw in 2001 and Gordon Besaw in November 2016 and a a grandson Michael Champ in 2012.
At Phyllis' request cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home and Cremation Services, with visitation beginning at 2 p.m.
