Richard James Dunbar Jr., 62, of Traverse City passed away February 3, 2021. He was born in Detroit on May 21, 1958, son to Richard James and Rosemary Louise (Platte) Dunbar.

Richard grew up in Dearborn Heights. He graduated from Divine Child High School in Dearborn and attended Henry Ford Community College. After moving to Traverse City in 1978 with his family, he continued his education at Northwestern Michigan College. Richard worked for 19 years in the telecommunications industry.

Richard was a quiet individual who loved living in northern Michigan. Over the years, his hobbies included scuba diving, hunting, cross country skiing and biking. He was particularly fond of driving around on warm summer days in his open-top Jeep Wrangler.

He leaves behind his mother Rosemary and sisters Patricia and Mary Ann Dunbar. He joins his father, Richard in heaven.

Mass of Christian Burial take place Monday, Feb 15, 2021, 11:00 AM, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Traverse City where he had been a parishioner for over 30 years. Richard will be laid to rest in the Oakwood Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Francis of Assisi Parish, the Diabetes Foundation or a charity of your choice.
