Obituary

Rita Dorland, 92, of Traverse City, Michigan, passed away on March 21, 2025 with her family by her side.

Rita was born on February 25, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Clara (Rowinski) and Alex Korotko. She graduated from St. Thomas High School in Detroit, Michigan in 1951. On November 3, 1956, she married Richard Dorland. They have five children that were raised in Southgate, Michigan before moving to Traverse City in 1977. They were then blessed with eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She loved all of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends very much.

Rita was best known for her cooking. She had thousands of recipes and loved to experiment with her cooking.

She loved doing different crafts such as sewing, ceramics, crocheting, floral arrangements and many more.

Rita loved to travel to various locations in the United States. She liked to see different cities and she especially liked to see the different lighthouses in Michigan.

When she was younger she volunteered at a children's handicapped hospital. She was also a bank teller and a sales clerk.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents Clara (Rowinski) and Alex Korotko, brother Raymond, husband, Richard and daughter, Kathy Dorland and best friend, Lorraine Shekoski.

She is survived by her children Robert (Vicki) Dorland, Karen (Tom) Britton, David (Mary) Dorland and Michael (Sheri) Dorland and eight grandchildren Erin (Joe), Kathy (John), Mandy (Bill), Bobbie (Cory), Karen, Sam (Jessie), Sara and Jerry (Candace), nine great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and extended family Suzanne (Gene) Allen and family.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
