TRAVERSE CITY — Robert Louis Julien, 86, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family.Robert was born March 16, 1924, in Detroit to the late Louis Felix and Jewel Estelle (Barkume) Julien. He married Madelon Louise Jones on Feb. 15, 1947, also in Detroit. Bob honorably served the United States in World War II in southern Italy.Bob loved being with family, playing pinochle and gardening. He successfully ran his own company for more than 50 years, serving the State of Michigan in the fireplace industry. Surviving Robert is his wife, Madelon; children, Mariann (David) Watson, Deborah Griffin (Randy Meulman), Diane Chisholm, Teresa (Tim) Rhoades, Kenneth (Kathy) Julien, and Elisa Julien; daughters-in-law, Cheri Julien and Jennifer Garrison; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.His son, Clifford Julien, preceded him in death in 2003. A private family memorial service will take place at a later time.Memorial contributions may be directed to The Father Fred Foundation or The Salvation Army.The family is being served by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
