Alfred "Al" Stachel
January 9, 1933 - December 9, 2021
Dr. Alfred Stachel passed away peacefully on December 9, 2021, in Traverse City, Michigan, one month before his 89th birthday. Al is survived by his loving wife Teri Hedrich, son Andreas Stachel (Genia), daughter Karen Stachel Schriedel, grandchildren Logan and Emily, sisters Heidi Stachel and Evelyn Stachel, sister-in-law RoseMarie Stachel, and his beloved cats Prince and Ray. Dr. Stachel was born January 9, 1933, in Innsbruck, Austria. At 18, he moved to Argentina where he pursued his education, graduating from the University of Buenos Aires School of Medicine. Al fulfilled a dream of practicing medicine in the United States, opening an internal medicine office in Palatine, Illinois in 1964. His medical career spanned 40 years. Al retired to spend quality time sailing, traveling, and RVing with Teri. A highlight of their travels included living in Austria and Spain for a year. Other enjoyments of Al’s were alpine skiing, hiking, cooking and bread baking, as well as gardening and spending time with family and friends. Celebrations of Life will be planned for the summer of 2022 in Austria and in Al’s garden on Old Mission Peninsula. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a tribute in Al’s name to the Cowell Family Cancer Center or the Botanic Garden at Historic Barn Park, both in Traverse City, Michigan. Please feel free to share your thoughts and memories with Al’s family at his tribute page at www.reynolds-jonkhoff.com.
