Alice Ann McGahey

February 21, 1943 - January 17, 2022

Alice Anne McGahey, 78, of Traverse City entered into eternal life on January 17, 2022 with her family by her side. Alice was born on February 21, 1943 in Lima, Ohio to the late Franklin William and Bertille Elizabeth (Sonderman) Simone. Alice graduated from St. Francis High School in Traverse City in 1961. In 1963, Alice married Donald George McGahey at the old St. Francis Catholic Church. Alice was proud to be a member of a big Italian Family. Faith was also very important to her. She was a devoted member of Christ the King Catholic Church and had many friends at other local parishes. Alice was not one to sit idle and after graduating from St. Francis worked for a law firm and later worked at Christ the King Church and also sang in the choir. She retired from the Deli at the Tom’s Grocery Store in Acme in 2008. Alice was a gifted crafter and artist. She was a professional seamstress and taught others how to sew. She also taught China painting and made many beautiful quilts. When the pandemic hit, she was one of the first to make face masks for others and always gave them away for free. Her last piece of art work was a painted icon of the Virgin Mary. Her family is so thankful for her many works of art that they now cherish as part of her legacy. Alice was preceded in death by her husband Donald; son Mark McGahey; siblings Rosemary Miller, Leo Simone, Janet Simone, Jack Simone and Anthony Simone. Alice is survived by her children Lisa (Brian) Marek, Michell (Fiancé Douglas Rudy Jr.) McGahey, Donald McGahey; grandchildren Landon Marek, Mariah (Nic) Konieczka, Coral Tengdin and Hayden Beard; and siblings Joseph Simone, Katherine (Chuck) Jakee and Martha Preston. The funeral mass will be held on January 29, 2022 at 11:00 am at Christ the King Catholic Church. The rosary will be prayed at 10:30 am. Alice will be laid to rest at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
