Ann E. Skory

May 12, 1937 - December 6, 2019

Ann E. Skory, 82, of Traverse City, formerly of Minneapolis, MN, San Diego, CA, Bradenton, FL, and Lake Ann, MI, died Friday, December 6 at Munson Hospice House. Born May 12, 1937 in Minneapolis, MN, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Peter and Charlotte Hiniker. On June 25, 1966, she married the late James F. Skory, the love of her life. Ann was an enthusiastic promoter of all things Traverse City. Volunteering many hours at the Traverse City Visitor Center, she assisted visitors and tourists in discovering the many attractions in the Grand Traverse area. Her great love of classical music made her a big fan of the Traverse Symphony Orchestra and the Interlochen Center for the Arts. At Interlochen, she attended many performances and also volunteered in a number of positions. For several years she served as president of Traverse Hills Condominium Association where she enjoyed the friendship of many of her neighbors. Living her faith, Ann was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church where she sang in the choir and volunteered her services with other committees. Blessed with a loving extended family, Ann is survived by her brothers Peter (Louise) Hiniker and Richard (the late Liz) Hiniker, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and spouse, Jim. A world traveler, Ann loved learning about the arts, history, and culture of the many places she visited. She enjoyed the game of golf, especially after a game when she and her golfing friends would have a relaxing lunch. Ann and Jimmy spent many happy hours fishing on their beloved Lake Ann. It didn’t matter if they were successful, it was more about the time spent together. Ann also especially loved family gatherings and never missed a chance to celebrate with family and friends. Her nieces and nephews loved her for the caring she expressed through her listening ear, and through her words of encouragement. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m., with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 630 S West Silver Lake Rd, Traverse City, MI 49685. Rev. Fr. Gerald Okoli will officiate. Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick’s Church choir or to Traverse City Symphony Orchestra Please feel free to share your thoughts and memories with Ann’s family at her tribute page at www.reynolds-jonkhoff.com. The family is being cared for by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
