Barbara Anne Hoig

Barbara Anne Hoig, 71, long time resident of Traverse City passed away peacefully at Munson Medical Center on Sunday, February 21, 2021. Barb was born in Traverse City to the late Henry J. and Mabel H. (Herkner) Russell. She graduated from Traverse City Central High in 1967. Following high school, she continued her life-long journey of learning at Northwestern Michigan College in the Nursing School. After many years as an RN at Little Traverse Hospital in Petoskey, she continued her education, earning a Bachelors degree from Ferris State University, and Masters of Divinity from Western Theological Seminary. She helped many people in her years on this earth as an RN, Hospice Nurse, Chaplain and Pastor. She enjoyed singing, helping others, cooking, baking, sewing, and quilting. Fondly, she will be remembered as a wonderful nurse, gifted Chaplain and Pastor, a beautiful singer and for her huge giving heart. Barbara was devoted to her Lord and Savior, family, and many dear friends. Surviving Barbara is her brother David (Colette) Russell of Traverse City, nephews Andy (Rebecca) Russell and James "Al" (Jessica) Russell, great niece and nephew Sarah and David James Russell, her beloved dog Greta and many other loving family members and friends. Barb is preceded in death by her parents. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the music department of First Congregational Church, Traverse City, or Munson Hospice House. A memorial service celebrating the life of Barbara A. Hoig will be held 10:00 am, September 18, 2021 at First Congregational Church in Traverse City.
