Benjamin "Bill" William Walker

Benjamin “Bill” William Walker, 84, of Traverse City passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2021 at Munson Medical Center. Bill was born on February 22, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Benjamin and Louise (Froelich) Walker. He married the love of his life Mary Ann Orbit on May 10, 1958 in East Detroit. Bill had been employed with MichCon as a laboratory technician, retiring in 1995 after over 41 years of service. Bill lived in Detroit and Warren before moving to the Traverse City area. He lived on Duck Lake peninsula for many years. Bill enjoyed playing golf, he was a member of Interlochen Golf Course. He loved fly fishing, and had many wonderful trips fishing the Yellowstone River in Montana and Wyoming. In his earlier years, Bill was an avid bowler, and participated in many bowling leagues. He was a member of a Wednesday lunch group known as “The Lunch Bunch.” Later that same day Bill would join another group of friends at the U.N.I. Lounge. Woodworking was one of Bill’s favorite pastimes, he built two wood canoes and a fiberglass one as well. The canoes are still on display at his son’s cottage. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Ann, two sons; Craig Walker and Gary (Tami) Walker, his grandchildren; David Walker and Allison Walker as well as a brother, Thomas (Margaret) Walker and nephew, Tommy Walker. He was preceded in death by a half-sister, Denise and a niece Tina. In accordance with Bill’s wishes cremation has taken place and a celebration of Bill’s life will be held in the spring.
