Celestine G. Schaub Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Traverse City-Celestine G. Schaub, 93, of Traverse City, died Sunday, May 13, 2012 at Munson Medical Center. Born April 16, 1919 in Bingham Township, he was the son of Rudolph and Irene (Steimel) Schaub. In 1937 Celestine graduated from Suttons Bay Highschool. On September 12, 1939 in Traverse City, he married the late Thelma M. (Couturier) Schaub who preceded him in death in 2009. Celestine was a devout member of St. Francis Catholic Church and the Eagles. He was a a retired general building contractor for many years and built residential and commercial buildings. He was also very involved with the Carmelite Monastery. Celestine loved to Polka, spend time with his Florida friends and eat breakfast with his breakfast club at Flap Jack Shack. Above all he was a loving and caring father who will be deeply missed. He is survived by eighteen children, Gale (Ann) Schaub of Traverse City, Ruth Welch of Traverse City, Richard (Isolde) Schaub of Traverse City, Raymond (Janice) Schaub of Leesburg, Fl, John (Ruth) Schaub of Buckley, Gerald (Janice) Schaub of Traverse City, Celeste Schaub of Leesburg, FL, Celestine (Joan) Schaub, Jr. of St. Johns, Theodore (Vickie) Schaub, DVM ,of Mt. Morris, Phyllis (William) Clark of Talihina, OK, Anthony (Angie) Schaub of Traverse City, Michael Schaub of Traverse City, Ike Schaub of Traverse City, Janet (Stuart) Smewing of Traverse City, Eugene (Kay) Schaub of Traverse City, Timothy (Lisa) Schaub of Traverse City, Duane (Vickie) Schaub of Traverse City and Sidney (Cyndi) Schaub of Traverse City; 82 grandchildren; 97 great grandchildren and 22 great-great grandchildren; brother Raymond Schaub and sister Lavina Moss. Celestine was preceded in death by his parents, wife Thelma, son-in-law Kenneth Welch, daughter-in-law Sue Ann Schaub, sisters Rosalie, Irene LaPeer, and Agnes Winowieski, and brothers Frances, Sylvester, and Laverne, granddaughters Harriet Schaub, Bridget Schaub, Kayla Schaub, grandson Weston Skipper and 3 infant siblings, Daniel Schaub, and Bradley Schaub, William Clark Jr., great grandsons Taylor Derks and Amadeus Schaub, and great granddaughter Alexandra Commins. Visitation will be held today, Tuesday May 15, 2012 from 5 to 7 pm at St. Francis Catholic Church. The Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Francis Catholic Church on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at 11:00 A.M. Burial will take place at Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Cemetery. In remembrance of Celestine, memorials may be directed to the Carmelite Monastery.
