Colleen Marie Hathaway, 69, of Traverse City, Michigan, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2023, at Munson Medical Center. Colleen was born on November 1, 1954, in Traverse City, Michigan to the late Anthony and Emma (Cliche) Basso.
Colleen was born the youngest of five children, with an eleven-year age gap between her and her closest sibling. Tragedy hit the Basso family when Colleen was only thirteen; she lost her father, and two-weeks later, her mother. On Colleen's sixteenth birthday, she moved into Foster Care with Dr. and Mrs. Clark Phelps and their four children who all continue to carry us in their hearts as family.
Colleen graduated in 1972 from St. Francis High School and later graduated from the Practical Nursing Program at Northwestern Michigan College. She worked for Munson Medical Center for 43 years and was well known as "TELE COLLEEN".
Colleen married her college sweetheart, Paul Hathaway, on October 11, 1974. They later divorced but remained friends with a shared devotion of their children and grandchildren.
Colleen is survived by her children, Brian (Kristy) Hathaway of Royal Oak; and Kristina (Jeffrey) Noell of Traverse City; grandchildren, Lincoln Noell and Monroe Noell of Traverse City; foster parents, Clark and Marie Phelps, of Traverse City; brother David Phelps of Traverse City; sisters Katie Phelps of Traverse City; Bridgit (Kevin) Thieme of Grand Rapids; Julie (Brian) Greene of Elk Rapids; sister-in-law, Marilyn Basso of Traverse City; The Hathaways; along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Colleen was preceded in death by her brothers, Anthony Louis Basso (infant) and Louis Anthony Basso; sisters, Dolores Taylor and Jovan "Bonnie" Fort.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caring staff of Cowell Family Cancer Center, Munson Medical Center, and Starbucks on Front.
Hallmark Christmas Ornaments were a passion for Colleen and one of the many ways Colleen showed her love for those that she held dear in her heart.
Following cremation, Colleen is laid to rest at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
