Obituary

Dagmar Maline Morrison of Traverse City, age 99, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, in her home at Boardman Lake Glens. She was born May 13, 1923, to Carl and Mabel (Hagstrom) Carlson in Muskegon, MI.

Dagmar was married to John (Jack) Morrison, Jr. in March of 1944 in Muskegon, and settled in Grand Haven, MI to start a family.

She loved to bake and make bread especially. Her children grew up never tasting store-bought bread. In addition to baking, Dagmar canned fruit, kept beautiful gardens, and was a member of various church groups. She was also an accomplished knitter and seamstress, creating beautiful sweaters and afghans, and sewing clothes for herself and her children. She loved to sing, and she played the piano.

The couple had traveled to Northern Michigan on their honeymoon and fell in love with the area. They were able to move the family from Grand Haven to Traverse City in 1967.

Dagmar and Jack loved to travel, and went on many family trips over the years covering most of the United States. They took an extended trip to Scandinavia in 1987, and visited Dagmar's many relatives in Sweden. She continued her travels after Jack's death with church groups and Red Hat ladies.

Dagmar is survived by her children John (Barbara) Morrison III of Spring Lake, MI; Douglas Morrison, Nancy Dakoske, and Barbara Morrison of Traverse City; granddaughters Laurie Meder, Julie Walkenhorst, Laura Clemens, and Jenn Frankhouse; nine great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jack; son Robert; and siblings Irvin, Doris and Robert.

The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the staff of Boardman Lake Glens and Hospice of Michigan for their loving care.

The memorial service will be celebrated by Pastor Leslie Mott at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at the First Presbyterian Church of Traverse City, 701 Westminster Road, Traverse City, MI 49686.
