Dan Binder, 72, of Traverse City passed away March 8, 2019 at the Villa at Traverse Point.

Dan was born on January 20, 1947 in Detroit to the late Wayland William and Juliette (Chizmadia) Binder.

Dan served our country honorably as a member of the United States Army from 1966-1969 in Viet Nam. Due to his military service he experienced many impairments and difficulties. Dan chose to focus on what he could to do help others out of his love for Jesus Christ. Dan worked mainly in construction, maintenance and sales trades.

Dan was one of the founding members of New Hope Church and was active in the Faith Reformed Church Choir. He was a member of the VFW Honor Guard and the American Legion. Dan truly had a heart to serve. He was a dedicated volunteer for the National Cherry Festival, the Traverse City Single's Club and also helped with Parents without Partners. Hosting and cooking for small groups of friends was a joy for Dan. He loved his animals. He will be remembered for his big generous heart, wonderful sense of humor and his ability to focus on the positive. He will be dearly missed.

Dan is survived by his Best Buddy Janet Fox, sons Wayne Binder and Jon Binder; siblings Roy Binder, Diane Schmidt, Gary Binder; Grandchildren Drake & Victoria and Stephen & Legend.

Dan was preceded in death by his son Dan Jr.

Dan's life will be celebrated on Friday, March 15, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens followed by a luncheon at the VFW Hall.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
