Dewey Stanley Hiler, of Traverse City, went to be with Jesus on October 19 2020. He was born the youngest of eight children in Watervliet Michigan, November 7, 1944 to Lester and Marjorie Hiler.
He grew up working on his family farm. He was a resident of the Traverse City area for over 30 years. Dewey had many titles in his life: A loving Father and provider, proud Marine who served in Vietnam and tribal member of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians. He worked as a tree trimmer and retired as a printer. He was a master gardener, and entertaining guitar player and singer. He was quick to make friends and was loved by all those who knew him.
He is survived by wife Stephanie (Downey) Hiler; his children Jennifer (Toby) Wenzel, Dewey Hiler Jr., Chastity Hiler and Sarah (Nathan) Sweeney; grandchildren Katelyn (Justin) weaver, Jane and Elliot Sweeney; great granddaughter Iris Weaver. He also leaves behind three sisters, Ilajean Wolf, Joahnita Paustian, Beverly Tidy and one brother Richard "Sonny" Hiler. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Robert and two sisters, Ilene Scott and Dorothy Reynolds.
Visitation will be held from 5-8PM, Friday October 30, at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. A service will be held in Southwestern Michigan at a time to be determined.
