Donald B. Chartier of Traverse City passed away June 27, 2019 at home at the age of 91 after a short illness. He was born in Antigo, Wisconsin, Aug. 24, 1927 and was raised in Detroit.
At the age of 17, Don suspended his schooling and joined the U.S. Navy in 1944. At the end of the war he joined the U.S. Airforce Reserves and finished his education. He then graduated from the University of Detroit Mercy.
At age 23 he married Maxine N. Cornell from Boyne City. Together they shared over 68 years of marriage.
He had a career with Standard Oil Company in Detroit. In 1969, he transferred to Amoco Production Company in Traverse City, where he worked until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife Maxine Chartier; sister Elizabeth Winter; daughters: Donna (Eric) Johnson, Jayne (Dick) Frederick, Molly (Tim) Murphy, and Alice (Rick) Pringle; sons: Bart (Rebecca), Bruce (Tracy), and Brian; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Valeria (Glugla) Chartier; son Paul Chartier; brother Raymond (Patricia) Chartier; and sister Rosemary (Bud) Sharp.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Thursday, July 18, at 11 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Church, 308 Cedar St., Traverse City, MI 49684. Friends and family will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. The holy rosary will be prayed at 10:30 a.m. Donald will be laid to rest in the Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Cemetery.
