September 3, 1943 - January 25, 2021
Doris Ann Murdick, 77, of Acme and North Hutchinson Island, FL passed away Monday, January 25, 2021 with her husband at her side. Doris was born on September 3, 1943 in Traverse City to the late Jerome Francis and Laura Minnie (Cavitch) Korb. She married Douglas Kent Murdick on January 6, 1962 at the Immaculate Catholic Church in Traverse City. “After 3 years of dating in high school we were finally old enough to get married”….Doris would fondly say. Together they lovingly raised four wonderful children. In 1964 she and Doug opened Doug Murdick’s Fudge in Traverse City and Acme. Together they successfully owned and operated the family business for many years until recently selling to their children. Doris has been a devoted member at Christ the King Catholic Church for many years and she was a member of the Acme Women’s Club. She and Doug always loved traveling in their motorhomes over the last 40 years until they built their home in Florida in 2009. They still continued using a smaller one for short trips and back and forth to Florida. They traveled and wintered with their best friends Bill and Sharon for at least 35 years. Doris and Sharon would spend hours at the beach or pool then finish the day with dinner out and maybe a movie. Many days they spent hours sitting side by side playing their favorite slot machines. The last few years Doris liked playing Texas Hold'em in Casino poker rooms. Every night she and Doug would play Cribbage. Doris and Doug also enjoyed cruising and went on 7 fun adventures in total. The last one in 2017 to the magnificent Panama Canal with 6 special friends. At Christmas time she would make several batches of her Christmas cookies that everyone loved. She would make sure she had enough so everyone could take a bunch home. Doris enjoyed snowmobiling and boating the Bays until she could not do anymore because of her back. Doris suffered many physical problems starting as young as 26. However, always thinking of everyone else before herself especially Doug and her children. Her big beautiful smile would light up the room and make everyone happy to be together. She would always have a big hug for grandson Alec. Now we believe Doris is reunited with grandson Adam, mother and father, Bill and Sharon and many other family and friends. Surviving Doris is her husband Doug of 59 wonderful years; children, Dale J. (Michelle) Murdick of Cedar, MI , Dean S. Murdick of Traverse City, MI Debbie S. (Jimmy) Jamieson of Traverse City, MI and David K. Murdick of Kingsley, MI, grandchildren, Alec, Ashley, and Shannon, sister’s Beverly (Carl) Stricker, Darlene (Ed) Belanger and many other loving family members and friends. Doris is preceded in death by her parents and her grandson Adam. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Doris on Friday, February 5, 2021 at Christ the King Catholic Church at 11am.
