Dorothy Jean Hanell, 90, of Traverse City passed away July 10, 2019 at the Medilodge in Traverse City.
Dorothy was born on November 24, 1928 in Florida to the late Frederick Arthur and Nellie Mae (Smith) Summers.
On December 3, 1949, Dorothy married the love of her life, Otto Hanell in Traverse City. They shared 65 wonderful years together before he passed in 2015.
Dorothy worked for the Salvation Army for nearly 40 years. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, knitting and gardening. She also liked to macrame, make candles and sing.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Otto, parents, and brothers Don, Ken and Stan.
Dorothy is survived by her son Otto "Andy" Hanell, daughter Jan Nickerson; grandchildren Sarah Dunn and Justin (Amanda)Nickerson; four great grandsons Jordan, Evan, Jackson and Tristan; great great granddaughter Camille and sister-in-law Ida.
Interment will take place at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens at a later date.
The family is being cared for by Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
