Elizabeth "Betty" L. Miller
February 25, 1932 - February 3, 2022
Mrs. Elizabeth “Betty” L. Miller of Leland, Michigan, formerly of Cleveland, Ohio, age 89, passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday, February 3, 2022. She was born on February 25, 1932 in Cleveland to the late Harold and Hazel (Anthony) Booth. Betty was married to Richard E. Miller on February 11, 1952, in Cleveland Heights. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Miami University and worked as an accountant for Great Lakes ore-carriers at Wilson Marine Transit. Betty and Dick vacationed in Leland for forty years before becoming permanent residents in 1991. They were longtime members of the Leland United Methodist Church, and Betty was a member of the Leelanau Women’s Club. Betty was quite the crafter and incredibly talented with her hands and a needle. She loved all types of needlework and even taught sewing, cross-stitching, quilting, and how to make her one-of-a-kind hand-cut lampshades. Betty was a loving and devoted wife, wonderful mother, proud great-grandmother, dear sister and friend. She will be lovingly remembered by all those who knew her. Betty leaves behind her son Tom Miller; daughter Mary Beth Mitchael; grandchildren Kristen (Steve) Hoebel-Hernandez, Lucas Mitchael; and great-grandkids Ryland and Rowen Hernandez. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Richard; and sister Marilyn Opatrny. Relatives and friends may call on the family during a time of visitation from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 17, 2022, at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth Street, Traverse City, MI 49684. A private family funeral will be celebrated at the United Methodist Church of Leland this summer. She will be laid to rest in Beechwood Cemetery next to her beloved husband Richard. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to offer an expression of sympathy are encouraged to make a memorial contribution to the college fund of Betty's grandson Lucas Mitchael.
