Elizabeth Mabel Harlan
September 11, 1932 - February 2, 2021
Elizabeth Mabel Harlan (Beth) passed away on Tuesday, February 2nd, 2021 from complications of the Corona Virus at Northport Highlands Memory Care Facility with her loving husband, John, by her side. Beth was born on September 11, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York to Joe and Myrtle Henninger. She grew up in Detroit, Michigan attending Cass Tech and Wayne University. She married John Marshall Harlan 65 years ago on February 18th, 1956, the love of her life. They raised three daughters, Patricia, Diana and Sandra. They moved to the Traverse City area in 1995 and enjoyed their retirement years in their beautiful condo on East Bay. John and Beth enjoyed many wonderful trips to exotic locations worldwide, before being moved to Northport due to poor health in 2018. Beth enjoyed many activities. Her love of boating lead her to become a 3 Star Navigator with the Birmingham Power Squadron. She always believed in the future and took computer classes at Oakland University. Her superior communication skills came in handy when she served as Secretary for the Traverse City Rock Hounds. She loved knitting, reading, cooking, birdwatching, and shopping. But most of all her life was dedicated to the love and care of her family. Beth was a wonderful mother. We will miss her laughter, supportive presence, her generosity, and her spirit of wonder. Even though she is gone she will always be in our hearts. Beth is survived by her beloved husband, John; daughters Diana Harlan Stein (David), and Sandra Harlan McAndrews (Mike); and her grandchildren, M John McAndrews, John Forrest Schumacher, Kathryn Kelly Schumacher, Jeffrey Harlan McAndrews, and Sabrina Fathom Stein. Due to the Corona Virus pandemic, a memorial celebration of life will be held at a future date to be determined at the Eden Glen Lutheran Memorial Park in Livonia, Michigan, where she will be buried next to her parents. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the kind and hardworking staff of Northport Highlands for taking such loving care of our mom and dad these last 2 years. In lieu of flowers the family requests any donations be directed to the Northport Highlands Memory Care Facility.
