Elsie Elizabeth Ochs Weber, 104, of Traverse City, died April 30, 2021, at home. Elsie was born on April 15, 1917, the sixth of seven children born to John August William Henry Ochs and Dora Louise (neé Ziegler) Ochs, in Dearborn, Michigan. On September 19, 1936, Elsie was married to George Martin William Weber. Nearly a year prior to George’s death, August 6, 2007, they had celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. They are the parents of two daughters and one son. George and Elsie lived mostly in Dearborn, Michigan, prior to moving to the home they built at Cedar Lake, near Lake Ann, Traverse City. For many years they were winter residents in Bradenton, Florida. During their marriage, Elsie was the devoted homemaker for her husband and family. Early in her marriage she completed a Red Cross training course and was able to provide nursing care to her younger daughter over a three-year period. She often reached out to care for members of her extended family as well. She was a diligent and active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Dearborn, and later Trinity Lutheran Church, Traverse City and Hope Lutheran Church, Bradenton, Florida. She was very involved in the women’s groups, particularly the ladies aids and altar guilds of the congregations, participating in craft making and catering activities. She often assisted George in his church furniture building activities. Surviving Elsie are her three children, daughters Sharon Esther (Ralph) Knorr and Patricia Anne (Douglas) Thunder and son, Paul Allen Weber, who has been Elsie’s primary care giver over the 12 years since George’s death. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Caren Beth Knorr of Surry, Virginia; Craig Matthew (Kirika Tereya) Knorr of Tokyo, Japan; Scott Douglas (Regina) Thunder of Reno Nevada; Kenneth Todd (Tammy Soong) Thunder of Reno, Nevada; & Timothy Carl Thunder of Portland, Oregon; and by six greatgrandchildren: Matthew & Erika Tereya-Knorr (Craig); Ian & Avery Thunder (Kenneth); and April and Spencer Thunder (Scott). Preceding Elsie in death are her parents, her six siblings: Ethel, Edna, Florence, Emery, Evelyn, & Edwin; and a granddaughter, Cheryl Ann Knorr, who died of leukemia at age 15. A graveside service will be held at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, Farmington, Michigan, on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at 1 p.m. Elsie will be interred next to her beloved husband at Glen Eden. Memorial offerings are designated to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Dearborn. Donations may be mailed to 800 S. Military, Dearborn, Michigan 48124.
