Ferris R. Steinhauer
January 29, 1930 - April 1, 2022
Ferris R. Steinhauer, 92, of Traverse City passed away peacefully on April 1, 2022 at his home with family by his side. Ferris was born on January 29, 1930 to the late Ferris Eaves and Ruth Marie (Bohl) Steinhauer. He was raised in Trenton and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force as a military policeman. In 1951 Ferris married his high school classmate Mary Lee Steele. Together they applied their love to three children, two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Ferris was a graduate of Wayne State University with a degree In Business. His work years were spent in labor relations in the auto industry. Ferris had a long love affair with youth ice hockey, both as a coach and administrator. Teams he helped coach won four state championships and three national championships. He was president of the Trenton Hockey Association and president of the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association. Ferris was subsequently elected to the Trenton Sports Hall of Fame. At age 58, Ferris decided he would learn to play tennis. It was no surprise he loved playing the game for the next 25 years. Ferris was especially happy at the large number of wonderful new friends that tennis brought him. Ferris was very thankful for three great blessings in his life:1. Two solid tough love, devoted role model parents.2. A wonderful, loving wife, Mary Lee, who he met on his first day at Trenton High School in 1943. Ferris always said the best decision of his life he made in the ninth grade.3. A lifetime of devoted Methodist ministers who continuously taught and reinforced Christian and family values. Cremation has taken place. Per the request of Ferris no funeral service will be held.
