Florence "Folly" Ann Michael

Florence "Folly" Michael, 93, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019 at Orchard Creek Supportive Care. She was born Sept. 8, 1926 in Benton Harbor to the late John and Mary Golden. She was preceded in death by her brother John Golden, Jr. and sister Ellen (Lamar) Curran. Florence attended St. John's School and Benton Harbor High, followed by Western Michigan University, where she studied art. It was there that she met her husband, Leon Michael. They married on Sept. 13, 1947 and lived in Three Rivers, Kalamazoo, and Cadillac before moving to Traverse City in 1972. While most of her time and energy was dedicated to caring for her family and raising 5 children, Florence also enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, art museums, traveling and volunteering as a docent at the Dennos Museum. She is survived by her husband Leon Michael; children Patrick (Laura) Michael, Edward (Ronda) Michael, Nick Michael, Charles Michael, Maggie (David) Edgar; and 5 grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 1PM, Friday, Oct. 11, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 308 N. Cedar, Traverse City, MI 49684. Friends and family will be received Thursday, Oct. 10, from 5-7 PM, at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be directed to The Dennos Museum, 1701 E. Front Street, Traverse City, MI 49686 or to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
