Frances Whyte Baker
July 30, 1928 - October 24, 2019
Frances "Fran" Whyte (Cameron) Baker, 91, was surrounded by her loving family when she was welcomed through the gates of heaven on Oct. 24, 2019. Born July 30, 1928 in Dearborn to James and Anne (Dickson) Cameron, she was a first-generation American who was proud of her Scottish heritage. Fran attended Dearborn Fordson High School, where she was the editor-in-chief of the yearbook and received her diploma at the age of 16. She married the love of her life, Stuart C. Baker, on May 8, 1948. They raised five children in their Dearborn home. Fran was the leader of her Women's Circle and facilitated the Sunday school worship program at her church. An avid bridge enthusiast, Fran belonged to numerous bridge clubs. Even though she was busy raising five children, she found time to enjoy sewing, knitting and baking for her family. Friends and family at Christmastime always looked forward to her variety of delicious cookies. A few years after her husband's passing, Fran began a new chapter of her life at Glen Eagle Independent Living in Traverse City. There, she thoroughly enjoyed meeting new friends, winning numerous games of bridge and joining in many activities. A new adventure in her later years was traveling to Mexico several times with family and friends. She is survived by her children, Stuart (Nora), of Northville, Carol (William) Keller, of Traverse City, Scott (Jenny), of Dearborn, Janet (Steve) Winters, of East Grand Rapids, and Cheryl (David) Wegener, of Rochester Hills. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brandon (Julie) Baker, Breanne (David) Clark, Matthew (Robin) Keller, Abby (Ken) Collins, Colin (Carrie) Keller, Scott (Christie) Baker, Jason (Megan)Baker, Christopher (fiancé, Mark) Baker, Steven (Amanda) Winters, Andrew (Mindy Zhong) Winters, Ellen, Reagan and Lauren Wegener; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Fran was preceded in death by her husband, Stuart in 2002; her parents; and her siblings, Jean, Robert and James. Special thanks are given to Comfort Keepers, particularly Melanie, Korenne and Beth, for their outstanding, loving care. Also, special thanks are extended to Glen Eagle staff and Munson Hospice nurses. A celebration of Fran's life will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Dearborn at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, Nov. 9. A luncheon will follow at the Dearborn Hills Golf Course. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Research to Prevent Blindness, c/o AMD research, 360 Lexington Ave., 22nd floor, New York, New York 11017 or online at www.RPBusa.org.
