Gerald Minto Wallace

Gerald M. Wallace, 89, died peacefully June 11, 2020 at Munson Hospice House. Born to Mr. and Mrs. M. Wallace, he was preceded in death by them and three brothers, Eugene, Ralph and Paul. Gerald grew up in Pontiac, MI. In high school he developed a love of track and field in which he successfully participated as a sprinter. He also did so at Adrian College. Upon graduation from Adrian College, he was immediately called into service, ending in the Demarcation Zone in Korea at the time of the cease fire. After returning home he began his career in the field of education in the Waterford School District. He was a teacher, varsity basketball coach, counselor and assistant principal until he accepted the principalship of Walled Lake Central High School. He held this position until his retirement in 1985. After his retirement, he and his wife moved to Higgins Lake, Michigan where he loved to sail, water and snow ski, sea-doo, snowmobile and ride his motorcycle. In 1999 he and Carolyn moved to Traverse City and then alternated between there and Gulf Shores, Alabama. He was extremely active in the Michigan Club in Alabama, serving as president and chairman of numerous committees. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carolyn and daughter Lynne (Edward) Grant. He is also survived by his sister Juanita Craft, sister-in-law Shirley Wallace, numerous nieces and nephews and extended family. Private interment will take place in Oakland Hills Cemetery in Novi. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Commerce United Methodist Church in Commerce Township, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gerald Wallace Scholarship, Legacy Scholarship Funds, Inc., Suite C, 3095 South Commerce Road, Walled Lake, Michigan 48390.
